Frequently Asked Questions About LED Lighting

General F.A.Qs

LED stands for light emitting diode.

Simply put, LEDs work by passing electricity through a microchip, which makes it emit visible light. For a more in-depth explanation, view our LED lighting guide.

LED lighting is known for its long lifespan. On average, LED lights can last between 25,000 to 50,000 hours or even more, depending on the specific product and usage!

This is significantly longer than traditional incandescent or fluorescent lights, which typically last around 1,000 to 2,000 hours. The extended lifespan of LED lighting means less frequent replacement, reduced maintenance costs, and longer-lasting illumination. With proper usage and care, LED lights can provide reliable and durable lighting for many years.

No, LEDs are especially known for their energy efficiency and consume significantly less electricity compared to traditional lighting options. LED technology allows them to convert a higher percentage of electrical energy into visible light, resulting in less wasted energy as heat. LED lighting is designed to provide bright illumination while using minimal power. This energy efficiency makes them a cost-effective and environmentally friendly choice for lighting applications.

At Lumilum we create, design, develop, and manufacture several product lines of LED Products such as: 120V LED Strip Lights, 24V LED Strip Lights, Small LED Flood Lights, Large Area LED Flood Lights, LED Panel Lights, LED Troffer Lights, several models of Small Dimmable LED Bulbs, as well as other specialty lighting products such as LED Under Cabinet Lighting and LED Wall Packs

At Lumilum, we are committed to providing our customers with high-quality products and exceptional service. That's why we proudly offer a generous 3-year warranty period on all our products.

If any issues arise within the warranty period, simply reach out to our dedicated customer support team, and we will promptly assist you. For more information, view full warranty terms.

LED strip lights do not attract bugs as they do not emit UV light. Typically, bugs are attracted to traditional lighting sources that emit UV or warm light, such as incandescent bulbs. LED light strips produce very little heat and emit a narrow spectrum of light that is less appealing to them so you can enjoy your LED strip lights without worrying about attracting any unwanted winged critters.

There are so many advantages of switching to LED lighting! Some of the top benefits include:

  • use much less electricity than other bulbs
  • produce little heat
  • long lifespan
  • dimmable
  • contain no mercury
  • don't emit UV or infrared
  • can operate effectively in extremely cold or hot environments
  • resistant to shock and vibration when used in commercial applications like bridges and tunnels

F.A.Qs - LED Strip Lights

LED strip lights can certainly be cut, but it's important to do it in the right spot to ensure they don't get damaged. Cutting intervals vary by manufacturer and type of strip, but there are indication marks on the strip that designate where it is safe to splice.

For Lumilum LED light strips, our 120V models can be easily cut every 12 inches / 1 foot at the marked points indicated with a scissor icon and our 24V models can be cut every few inches at marked copper connection points also indicated by a scissor icon.

For more information, view our Comprehensive Guide to LED Lighting.

LED strip lights are available in both dimmable and non-dimmable versions, depending on the specific model and manufacturer.

To ensure dimmability, it is important to choose LED strip lights that are specifically labeled as dimmable or compatible with dimming systems. These dimmable LED strip lights can be controlled using compatible dimmer switches, remote controls, or smart lighting systems.

LED strip lights are incredibly versatile and can be used for a wide range of applications. Some common uses of LED strip lights include: accent lighting, decorative lighting, task lighting, architectural lighting, outdoor lighting, automotive lighting, entertainment and event lighting, and more. The applications and possibilities are endless!

F.A.Qs - SMALL LED LIGHT BULBS

When evaluating the up-front cost of LEDs, factoring in their lengthy lifespan and low energy use in comparison to traditional incandescent bulbs makes it easy to understand why they're initially more expensive.

But, since LED light bulbs use less energy to produce the same amount of light, the energy savings from a switch to LED means that the up-front cost is paid back quickly so you'll end up saving money over the life of the bulb. Calculate costs by with the LED Energy Savings Calculator.
